Specialties

I specialize in helping clients navigate the difficult realm of our medical system. I’m here to unpack all the complex feelings that go along with chronic illness and help improve your coping.

Individual Therapy for Adults

Individual therapy is a place to talk about your diagnosis, figure out how it is affecting your life, and decide what you want to change. It is a place to learn new techniques to manage your depression or anxiety or medical trauma symptoms. We will explore together the places you may feel stuck, with curiosity and compassion. Therapy empowers individuals to regain a sense of control and find a balance between managing their physical health and mental well-being, fostering a more fulfilling life despite the challenges of chronic illness.

Therapy for Kids and Teens

Dealing with a chronic illness as a child or teenager can be exceptionally challenging. It can impact a child’s sense of identity, friendships, academic performance, and family relationships. Therapy is a place to learn strategies for managing the mental health components of having to deal with an illness. It is a safe place to express feelings, navigate challenging social dynamics, challenge negative thoughts, and build a toolbox of coping skills.

Gut-directed hypnotherapy

Gut-directed hypnosis is a therapeutic technique that uses relaxation and focused attention to help individuals manage gastrointestinal symptoms such as pain, bloating, and indigestion. By guiding patients into a deeply relaxed state, this mind-body approach aims to reduce stress, improve gut motility, and enhance the connection between the brain and gut, ultimately leading to improved digestive health and symptom relief. This modality is especially effective for DGBIs, or disorders of the gut-brain interactions. Some examples of this are irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, functional abdominal pain, functional constipation, and GERD. If you want to read more about this, I encourage you to read this article. I was trained through the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and use the University of North Carolina Standardized Hypnosis Protocol. I am able to tailor this intervention to patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, bladder issues, and other illnesses that show response to mind-body approaches like hypnosis.

Consulting

As someone who is both a mental health provider as well as a chronic illness patient with lived experience, I am uniquely suited to present to a variety of audiences. I have spoken at many support groups, patient and physician conferences, and have been a guest on various GI podcasts. I have helped companies address the mental wellness of their employees and developed a resilience curriculum for a research study. Please reach out for booking opportunities.

I also offer case consultations for fellow clinicians in the field looking for guidance on how to help their clients navigate chronic illness. I can provide clinical supervision to MSW and LSW clinicians as well.

I accept Aetna PPO, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, and Blue Choice PPO plans. If you have a different insurance plan, you will need to pay out of pocket ($175/session) and I am able to provide a superbill receipt to you so you can get partially reimbursed if you have out of network benefits. Currently all my sliding scale slots are full, so I am offering 30 min sessions (for $85) as a more affordable option. This does require more active participation between sessions in order to maximize our time together. Please contact me to verify your coverage and discuss any questions you may have. I’m happy to help you navigate your insurance benefits to ensure you receive the care you need. I am also happy to refer you out to someone in your network if I know of any colleagues who may be a good fit.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
