Gut-directed hypnosis is a modality that uses relaxation and focused attention to help individuals manage gastrointestinal symptoms such as pain, bloating, and indigestion. By guiding patients into a deeply relaxed state, this mind-body approach aims to reduce stress, improve gut motility, and enhance the connection between the brain and gut, ultimately leading to improved digestive health and symptom relief. It is especially effective for DGBIs, or disorders of the gut-brain interactions. Some examples of this are irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, functional abdominal pain, functional constipation, and GERD. If you want to read more about this, I encourage you to read this article. I was trained through the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and use the University of North Carolina Standardized Hypnosis Protocol. I am able to tailor this intervention to patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, bladder issues, and other illnesses that respond to mind-body approaches like hypnosis.
